Caselle di Selvazzano Dentro (Padua), 4 giugno 2019 – AFTER ONLY 13 LAPS AN ACCIDENT CAUSED BY ANOTHER CAR STOPS THE LAMBORGHINI HURACÁN AT THE BLANCPAIN ENDURANCE CUP
A weekend to forget for Daiko Lazarus Racing. The 1000 km at Paul Ricard, the third round in the 2019 Blancpain GT Series Endurance, ended for the team from Veneto after only 13 laps after an unforeseeable event and an incredibly promising start.
The car had to be retired from the race with Fabrizio Crestani behind the wheel during the first stint with the Lamborghini Huracán GT3. While a competitor was trying to get back onto the track after an accident he was involved in, he got straight into Crestani’s racing line in the last corner before the main straight, while Fabrizio was unable to avoid the other car.
This was the end of the race for a bitterly disappointed team. Right after the start Crestani had climbed to 17th overall position – fourth position in Silver Class – over the first two laps.
This was a significant move considering the heavy traffic of 49 cars on the track, who had totally conditioned the team’s qualifying. Crestani, together with his teammates, the German Nicolas Pohler and the Swiss Kris Richard, had only gained 30th overall position on the starting grid.
Everything had started so well in France on Saturday with a spot in the Top 10 and the fastest time in the Silver Class in the pre-qualifying’s Q1, which turned into the second fastest time during Q2 and Q3 caused by the wrong group of cars ahead of the Huracán, who slowed Nicolas Pohler and Kris Richard down twice during their flying laps… and then things took the wrong turn on Saturday….
“For us this was the third serious accident this season,’ Tancredi Pagiaro said. “it was a real pity, because we were constantly extremely quick here at Paul Ricard. Let’s hope that we’ve paid our share with the misfortune and we can finally turn the page.”
In only five days the team has the next race on the calendar: the International GT Open will start at the legendary Spa-Francorchamps track for the third round in the 2019 season.
