Venezuela: a whole country into GP2 Series in partnership with Lazarus.

February 18th, 2012. An entire country, Venezuela, is now among the big names of motorsport and for the first time Venezuela will have his team in GP2 Series, with a car livery whith the color “Vinotinto” which also characterizes the national football team. The new squad will run with Venezuelan license.

Joining GP2 was made possible thanks to a partnership with a consortium of Venezuelan investors. The sponsors were keen to publicize motorsport in Venezuela and raise awareness of the country’s talents in that sport. Therefore they created a project designed to raise the profile of the industry, which ultimately led to the deal with GP2.

Lazarus’ expertise was key to their desire to make Venezuela a force to be reckoned with in motorsport. They now have a common project called Venezuela GP Lazarus in GP2 Series, the category which gives an opportunity to young drivers to showcase their skills in front of F1 teams.

Lazarus was founded in 2009 and in that year provide technical and sporting  services to Team DPR in GP2 Series. In 2010 and 2011 Lazarus competed in Auto GP and finished second in teams’ standings last season.

Bruno Michel
“We are pleased to welcome Venezuela GP Lazarus to GP2 Series. They are a great addition to our competitive field of thirteen teams. Tancredi Pagiaro and most of his staff have been involved in GP2 in the past years and I am sure they will be able to be on pace very quickly.”

Tancredi Pagiaro, Team Principal
“We are very excited to be part of GP2 and I would like to thank first of all Venezuela GP and the organisers for giving us this entry. This Series is the most prestigious and competitive category after F1. I’m very proud and I thank veru much the pool of Venezuelans investors who have allowed us and an entire country like Venezuela to enter into such a prestigious championship as GP2. We know this will be a big challenge but we are ready for it and cannot wait to get started.”
